QRNational Coal is the largest provider of reliable, innovative, efficient and customer focussed rail transportation solutions for Australia's coal mining industry.
In 2006/07 QRNational Coal hauled more than 176.9 million tonnes of coal throughout Australia; this was up 8.6% or 14 million tonnes from the previous year.
In 2005, QRNational commenced its first export coal haul in NSW’s Hunter Valley region after successfully tendering against other major rail operators for the transport of approximately 10 million tonne from BHP Billiton’s Mt Arthur mine to the port at Newcastle for export.
In Queensland, QRNational Coal operates over 500 services per week from currently 39 coal mines. It rails coal to six export coal terminals and domestically to electricity generation and minerals processing industries. These services are operated on QRNetwork Access' interconnected coal network of over 2000km of track, 75% of which is electrified.
