Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion Project
QR National's Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion Project (GAP) is further opening up the Bowen Basin coal reserves to export markets. On behalf of coal customers BMA, Rio Tinto, QCoal, Macarthur Coal and Lake Vermont Resources, this project will deliver 50 Mtpa through to the Port of Abbot Point near Bowen, by mid 2012. First railings are set to commence in January 2012.
The GAP Project includes the 69-kilometre greenfield Northern Missing Link, which will connect the Goonyella coal rail system to the Newlands rail system. In addition, the project will expand and upgrade track along the Newlands rail system.
