Coal Loss Management Project

Coal Loss Management Project

QR National is continuing to establish a Coal Dust Management Plan in collaboration with the coal industry which will implement a number of coal dust mitigation methods.

In consultation with the each industry sector of Central Queensland Coal Supply Chain and the Queensland Resources Council, Network Services developed a Coal Dust Management Plan (CDMP). This was approved in early 2010 by the Department of Environment and Resource Management.

Project Objective and Deliverables

To install veneer spray stations at all Central Queensland mines by 2013.

  • 11 spray stations to be installed by June 30
  • Another 5 spray stations installed by end of 2011
  • All Central Queensland mines to have veneer spray stations installed by 2013

Quality Control

We are working with coal producers to implement the following dust mitigation methods:

1.   Spraying dust suppressants onto loaded coal wagons

2.   Improve coal loading techniques

3.   Improve load profiling to create a consistent surface of coal in each wagon

4.   Improve unloading techniques to minimise coal ploughing and coal stuck on wagons

The above intiatives will be included in commercial agreements between Network Services and mines.

To fast track the process, Network Services is offering to provide coal producers an added service by organising the implementation of veneering spray stations at Central Queensland mines, though individual mines still have the option of installing a veneer spray station independently.
